On September 4-17, 2023, the Adult World Championship took place, qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
More than 700 athletes from all over the world take part in the championship. Shqiperia was represented by two elite weightlifting athletes, Erkand Qerimaj and Briken Calja, who competed in the 81kg category and had an excellent performance considering the high level of this great event.
Sportsman Erkand Oerimaj reached the fifth place in the breakaway with 156kg and the seventh place in the double event with 338kg points in total.
Athlete Briken Calja reached the seventh place in the push with 187kg and the eighth place in the doubles with 337kg points in total.
It should also be noted the decoration that was given to the President of the Albanian Federation
Weightlifting Mr. Elez Gjoza from the President of the Federation of Saudi Arabia Mr. Mohammed Alharbi as an innovator and contributor to the development of the sport of weightlifting.
